2026 Potomac Youth Chess League Results and Standings

The 2026 Potomac Youth Chess League, the ongoing competition open to all middle schools in the greater Washington D.C. area, got started with Round 1 on Saturday, January 24.

The League continues to grow with 18 middle schools registering to participate this year. In addition to more than a dozen schools within the D.C. city limits, we also have schools from Potomac, MD, Beltsville, MD, Glenn Dale, MD and McLean, VA taking part.

Games are played online at lichess.com. Matches consist of two school teams of four students each, sorted in board order. Each student plays their opposite number twice during each match.

Potomac Youth Chess League New Season is Underway

The 2025 season of the Potomac Youth Chess League, the online competition we run for middle schools in the greater Washington D.C. area, began on January 11. Matches take place on lichess.com on Saturday afternoons.

The League has grown to ten schools this year, with The Avalon School and Sligo Creek Middle School in Montgomery County, MD, Cooper Middle School and Longfellow Middle School in Fairfax County, VA, and San Miguel School in northwest DC all joining the competition for the first time. Good luck to all the participating schools this season!

Potomac Youth Chess League Spring 2024 Season Has Begun

The Potomac Youth Chess League, the middle school chess league the Center ran from 1997 to 2010, has been brought back for a new season in Spring 2024. Any middle school in the D.C. area may field a team.

The first round of matches took place last Saturday, January 13. BASIS DC and DCI are the early leaders after recording 8-0 victories.

Come join us for a FREE #chess tournament for ALL AGES at Westfield Montgomery Mall this Saturday, August 9th starting at 12:00 Noon.The U.S. Chess Center, in partnership with the Chess Alliance, is pleased to present a FREE chess tournament at Westfield Montgomery Mall in the Chess Lounge (see map below) from 12:15pm until 4:45pm on Saturday, August 9th. There is no cost to participate in this tournament and players may play one or more games. There will be two sections for this tournament: A Youth Section (#1) for Rising 8th graders and younger [0-13 years old]; and a High School / Adult Section (#2) for Rising 9th graders and older, including adults [14 - 100+ years old].
