Leagues

The U.S. Chess Center runs numerous chess leagues where teams of four players compete in a series of chess tournaments.

Metro Area Chess League (MACL)

High School Chess League for Students in Grades 9-12

The Metro Area Chess League (MACL) is a high school chess league. Any high school in the DC metro area may field a team. Teams are four players, not necessarily the same four each match, all registered students in their schools in grades 9-12.

Potomac Youth Chess League (PYCL)

Middle School Chess League for Students in Grades 5-8

The Potomac Youth Chess League (PYCL) is a middle school chess league. Any middle school in the DC metro area may field a team. Teams are four players, not necessarily the same four each match, all registered students in their schools in grades 5-8.

Elementary Team League (ETL)

Elementary School Chess League for Students in Grades 2-6

The Elementary Team League (ETL) is a fun competition that takes place on eight Saturdays at 1:30 pm from November through March.  In the league, U.S. Chess Center after school chess clubs at FCPS elementary schools send teams of four players to compete against other teams of four players in friendly matches.
