Starting Photo

Big Nate greeted visitors to the U. S. Chess Center for 12 years (August 2000 – July 2012) when we were located at 1501 M Street in Washington. Lincoln Peirce, the artist, dropped by for a tournament that summer and taught the chess players drawing and cartooning techniques, while Big Nate himself kept his prodigious chess secrets to himself. The cartoons in this exhibit are photos of the original drawings that were on the walls of the original U.S. Chess Center. They appeared in newspapers but not in any of the Big Nate books.
