The Rated Beginners Open is restricted to players without a rating or with a rating under 1200. The tournament will be divided into five sections by age (high school students usually play with adults, younger students will be divided into four other sections).

All tournament rules will be followed. Please bring your own equipment, including boards, sets, clocks and pencils. Equipment is sold but not loaned at the U.S. Chess Center Gift Shop.

Players have 30 minutes to make all of their moves each game.

The U.S. Chess Center runs three Rated Beginners Opens each year. Some of the area's strong tournament players began in events like this.

Entry Fee: $15 at site, $12 if received by December 6. USCF membership is required.

Registration runs from 12:00 - 12:45 p.m. The tournament should end about 6:00 p.m.
